Alpine Garden Exploration: A Mountain in Bloom
Join us and discover the world of tiny delicate flowers, hardy plants and remarkable wildlife that survive in a harsh and unpredictable climate. The Presidential Range has some of the most interesting and beautiful alpine plants in America, as well as insects, birds and other wildlife. We will examine and identify a variety of alpine plants and discuss their adaptations that help them to defy the extreme conditions on Mount Washington. We will hike from the Mount Washington Auto Road in the Alpine Garden. Instruction only package is available.

Guided Lodge-to-Hut Adventure: Alpine Wildflowers in Presidential Range
Join us on this hut to hut natural history adventure as we explore the adaptations of plants and animals to live in such a challenging yet stunning environment. The alpine tundra is a rare habitat in New England and the shoulder of Mt Washington and the Presidential Range offer the conditions where alpine plants can survive and even thrive.After an introductory meeting at Joe Dodge Lodge we prepare for a backcountry adventure. Participants will examine the exquisite alpine flowers, discuss alpine adaptations, and compare alpine plant communities.

Leisurely paddle on the Royal River
A leisurely paddle on the Royal River in North Yarmouth. Canoes and kayaks welcome. This river has a very easy flow so it is easy to paddle against the current and come back with the current or go down stream and then back up. We will launch from the new boat launch in North Yarmouth. Time on the water will depent on group strength but at least 2 hours. Near Solstice Evening Walk
Make the most of the long evening to look for wildlife in softer light and cool shadows. Meet at Rocky Hill wildlife Sanctuary in Groton, MA at 6:30 for an easy paced walk. Closed toe shoes only. (no sandals, flip flops or Croqs). Bug spray is recommended. A hat will help with the bugs. Expect to be out no more than 90 minutes.
