Overview

This adventure is designed for families in search of a fun winter experience. Our trip begins with an orientation session and overnight at AMC's Joe Dodge Lodge. On the first full day we'll learn how to snowshoe. AMC Guides will share tips and techniques on how to move through the snow and up and down hills. We'll take a snowshoe hike in Pinkham Notch. The second day we'll offer Nordic skiing at beautiful Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center. AMC Guides will lead ski tours on the groomed network. Lessons will be available for anyone interested in learning or improving their skiing. Ski rentals are available at Great Glen. Guides will fill time between skiing and snowshoeing with snowshelter building, snow games and winter crafts. Each night will offer a family friendly evening program. AMC Guides will point out and identify animal tracks as well as other natural history of the winter world. The terrain is beginner to moderate and the pace will be comfortable with plenty of time to explore and learn. Led by AMC Guides Program Highlights: •Camaraderie of parents and kids exploring winter together •Professional winter guides unlocking the tips to safe, enjoyable winter adventures •Outdoor clinics, winter dress for safety and comfort •Multi-sport winter sampler from snowshoeing to groomed cross-country ski trails •Cross-country lessons and equipment rental packages available from the experts at Great GlenTrails Nordic Center at an additional cost. •Evening gatherings and social time in mountain lodge at the base of Mt Washington •Opportunity to spot animal tracks and unique winter natural adaptations. Then we'll head out and explore the winter woods in search of animal tracks. Approximate driving times and mileage to Pinkham: • From Boston, 170 miles, three and a half hours. • From Portland, 80 miles, two and a half hours. • From New York City, 350 miles, eight hours. • From Montreal, 225 miles, three hours and forty-five minutes.
