Worcester 100th Anniversary: Bay Circuit Trail Section 8 Sudbury to Marlboro

Date and Time

Saturday, December 2, 2017

Massachusetts, Central,

Registration is required for this activity. Please contact registrar below.

The Bay Circuit Trail (BCT) series celebrates the investment the Worcester Chapter made in the 230 mile BCT via our Endowment fund. We are also honoring the memory of Colleen McLaughlin, an active member of our Chapter who was a great advocate for the BCT. This section is 7.9 miles in distance and starts at Tippling Rock and ends at Parmenter Street. This will be the first of three hikes to cover section 8. We will hike at a moderate to fast pace (1.5-2.5 mph), taking time along the way to enjoy the unique features of this section of the BCT. Wear sturdy shoes for the variable terrain we will traverse. Bring water, trail lunch, snacks, rain gear, and a sense of wonder for the discoveries we will make along the way. A car spot will be required.

I've been hiking for the past 25 years with my family and the AMC. I have hiked all of the 48 four thousand foot peaks in New Hampshire and have also section hiked the Long Trail in Vermont. I enjoy traveling to more remote area and introducing people to the joys of spending time in the outdoors.

I began backpacking and hiking in 1999 as a leader for my sons Scout troop, but gained my passion for backpacking in 2001 completing a 10 day 85 mile trip at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Since then I began section hiking the Appalachian Trail, completing 1,500 miles as of 2016. I also completed the 272 mile Long Trail (LT) in July 2014.
