Overview

We are excited for your interest in joining hundreds of other AMC volunteers in giving back to the trails this season! What is a Volunteer Vacation? AMC works to provide you with a valuable volunteer experience in a beautiful place, learning something new, and also allowing for free time to explore the area. Volunteer Trail Crews will work four days, (Monday-Thursday) averaging 6-8 hours/day in the field, with Friday free for enjoying the Park. Projects may include basic brush clearing to building rock or wood structures. Our volunteer crews accommodate all levels of trail work experience and if you are brand new to trail work, we will teach you all of the techniques. Hiking to the project can range from flat - steep terrain and up to 1.5 miles long. The weather in Acadia National Park can be warm during the day in the fall and cool at night with frequent wet conditions. Be prepared to work on the trails in all kinds of weather (except in extreme weather events). A gear list will be included in the full registration packet. Please plan to arrive between 3-4 pm on the Sunday start date of your crew. Dinner and an intro to camp and crew life will be at 6:00pm. Meals are provided and your leaders will ask you to take turns helping out. Thursday evening or Friday morning be prepared for a quick clean-up of common areas then the day is yours to explore the park. Group meals will be available at camp through dinner on Friday. Echo Lake Camp has electricity in a large kitchen, dining room, and library with fireplaces. A full bathhouse with hot showers and flush toilets is located adjacent to tent platforms, with weather-tight, canvas, wall tents as sleeping quarters. These do not have electricity but do contain cots. The camp's waterfront has a dock with boats, a swimming float, games such as horseshoes, basketball, volleyball and board games. Bar Harbor and other nearby towns offer a wide variety of amenities. What is included in the cost? All Food, Lodging, Leadership, Tools, Protective Equipment, and Transportation to and from project locations. First fill out the Application below (click link), and submit to the Volunteer Trails Office. You will receive an emailed PDF of the full registration packet with info and forms. If you have unanswered questions, please check the FAQ page, send us an email, or call!
