Overview

Meet at 9:45 AM to leave at 10:00 AM from the commuter parking lot on Cottage Grove Road in Windsor for a leisurely hike and bushwhack through Matianuck Natural Area Preserve in Windsor and Keney Park in Hartford. There will be numerous stops to inspect the sights. Some highlights: a small, DEEP-enhanced sand barren, a beaver pond, an abandoned public stable, an abandoned zoo, a newly refurbished golf course, and an abandoned go-kart track. Hikers must be able to handle walking at about 1.5 miles per hour for about five miles, about half through trail-less obstacle-strewn woods, possibly in snow. Go to this web address for more information: http://davidreikandjudithlohmanpictures.blogspot.com/2016/12/sherwood-forest-zoo-and-matianuck.html . The hike is canceled if there is heavy rain or dangerous driving conditions.
