Second Roach Pond, Maine Woods, ME,
Registration is required for this activity.
The North Maine Woods offers unique hiking, fishing, and boating opportunities with steep mountain climbs leading to scenic wooded areas and bountiful water everywhere to enjoy.
Your experienced AMC trail crew leaders will provide training and supervision for your volunteer crew throughout the week. This program is open to all 18 and over and first time trail workers are welcome.
We will head out from newest of the Maine Lodges, the beautiful Medawisla Lodge and Cabins on the shores of Second Roach Pond and work each day on a project on Maine Woods Initiative land, owned and operated by AMC. Work locations may involve up to a 2-mile hike in from the trail head and will generally be on trails surrounding the Maine Lodges. The crew will work 4 days during the week, (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday) averaging 6-8 hours/day in the field, with Wednesday free for enjoying the area. Projects may include clearing drainage ditches, brushing back vegetation, hardening trails with gravel, constructing bog bridges, or building rock stairs or drainage structures. Please be prepared to carry a 20-30 pound day pack and work in all types of weather, rain or shine.
Camp Life: Participants will stay in one of the bunk houses that accommodate up to 16 people. All meals will be provided and prepared by the Lodge staff in the main dining room and trail lunches will be packed up each day. There is a shared bath with showers accessible to program participants as well.
