White Mountains, AMC huts,
New Hampshire, White Mountains,
We will do a hut-to-hut traverse through the White Mountains, passing through beautiful mountain scenery and staying at AMC's comfortable, fun mountain lodges. Our main focus each day will be completing the route to each hut, but we may have time to bag peaks, as time allows. Breakfast and dinner will be included in the cost of lodging at the huts. Very good meals will be cooked and served by hut staff. Accommodations are shared, unisex bunk rooms. Huts do not have running water for bathing for guests. Indoor, composting toilets are available at the huts. Lunch and trail snacks are available for purchase at the huts, but it's less expensive to buy them ahead of time and carry them with you. Hiking in the White Mtns is very strenuous and challenging. We may ascend at least 3000' or more, per day. Participants should be in good hiking condition, prepared for multi-day hiking, and able to carry a day pack of at least 25 lbs. Participants are encouraged to train for carrying at least that weight on day hikes with steep ascents prior to the trip. Hike will likely involve bridgeless stream crossings, Full gear list will be sent to registrants, and will include a sleep sack or bag for the huts, and warm, waterproof clothing for colder or wet conditions at higher elevations. Route: Day 1 - NH 116 to Lonesome Lake Hut via Kinsman Trail (approx. 6 mi.) Day 2 - Lonesome Lake Hut to Greenleaf Hut, route TBD (approx. 8 mi.) Day 3 - Greenleaf Hut to Galehead Hut, following Appalachian Trail (approx. 8 mi.) Day 4 - Galehead Hut to Gale River Trailhead (approx. 3 mi.)
