Overview

AMC is looking for new Information Volunteers for Medawisla Lodge. Medawisla offers hiking, paddling, biking, and fly fishing opportunities in the heart of Maine's 100-Mile Wilderness. Receive free meals and lodging while you volunteer! Information Volunteers (Info Vols) are passionate about helping people enjoy the outdoors and learn about the natural world. They greet guests in a friendly manner, orient them to the facility, and offer advice about hiking trails and outdoor activity planning. Info Vols also provide information about conservation and natural history, help guests at the waterfront with boats and paddling equipment, promote AMC membership, and may lead evening programs or nature walks (with additional training). Essential qualifications include experience hiking nearby trails; familiarity with the facility's lodging accommodations and outdoor activities; and an outgoing, friendly personality. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and pass an annual criminal background check. Schedule: Medawisla Information Volunteers serve on weekends in July, August, and September. Arrive Thursday or Friday afternoon/evening and depart late morning on Sunday. Commitment: Commit to volunteering at least 32 hours per year (typically 2 weekends), for at least three years. Participate in a training weekend every spring for the first three years as a volunteer, and once every three years after that. 2018 Training: The volunteer training weekend will be held at Medawisla Lodge, June 8th to 10th. The training begins Friday evening and finishes after lunch on Sunday. Application Process: Request an application by emailing amcvolservices@outdoors.org. Submit your completed application by February 15th for first consideration. Benefits: Free meals & lodging, and retail discounts, while volunteering! For more information, please contact Kyra Salancy, AMC's Outdoor Program Centers Volunteer Coordinator, at amcvolservices@outdoors.org or 603-278-3820.
