Overview

Description: We will cover most trails in Mt. Sugarloaf State Reservation, across both the north and south peaks. There are some nice views from the top. Out on the trails, we'll walk through evergreens that are heavy with snow. You may view the park map here: http://www.mass.gov/eea/docs/dcr/parks/trails/mt-sugarloaf.pdf Additional details about the meeting location, etc. will be provided by email a few days before the hike to those who register. Difficulty: Rating: B3C (B = distance of 5-8 miles, 3 = moderate pace of 1.5-2mph, C = average terrain) For more information about the hike rating system, read on here: https://amcberkshire.org/hike-ratings This hike is approximately 6 miles and we will travel at an overall pace of 1.5mph. Most of this hike is at a moderate incline/decline, with a steep section at the beginning. It is generally more difficult to hike during the winter in the snow, therefore a regular fitness routine is required. Required Gear: -microspikes or Hillsounds -2 pairs of socks (thin and thick) -multiple insulating layers (no cotton!) -water bottles (hydration bladders tend to freeze) Dogs: Dogs are welcome if they ALWAYS get along well with all other dogs and all people. Dogs MUST be kept on a 10 ft. max leash at all times. Owners must carry proof of current rabies vaccination. Please carry out pet waste. Social: Afterward, everyone is invited to The Roost, a 15 minute drive south on the highway. Here is a look at the menu: http://www.roostnorthampton.com/menu.html The address: The Roost, 1 Market Street, Northampton. Street parking is free on Sundays.
