New York, Catskills,
Registration is required for this activity.
A three night beginner winter backpack in the Catskills. We will backpack a short distance into the Wilderness to base camp for all three nights. Friday we will make our camp and go climb a peak. Saturday and Sunday we will do the same to other peaks in the area.
The trip is suitable for people who have previous winter hiking experience who want to learn how to winter camp. People who have more experience are welcome to join us but will need to make allowances for the less experienced people in the group. Appropriate for the season winter camping equipment is required but we won't be so far from our cars that you can't be hiked out by one of the leaders if you decide winter camping is not for you. Snowshoes will be required and used. The group will always hike together.
If you are a member of Facebook, a great way to keep up to date on new trips is by joining our backpackers group. See the link below:
I have been leading backpacking trips for the Appalachian Mountain Club and the Adirondack Mountain Club since 1975. I enjoy taking the time to look at the scenery and have a relatively slow pace. I am patient with beginners and enjoy helping them learn new skills.
