Date and Time
Saturday, February 24, 2018, 11:17AM - 3:30PM
New York, Hudson River Valley,
Registration is not required for this activity. However, you may wish to contact the leader(s) if you have any questions.
We will climb up Clausland Mt. (700' not steep, fairly easy road climb) through historic Rockland Cemetery to an old Nike missal base with views of the area. See how close nuclear missiles were stored, ready to launch, to where we live. Bring hiking boots, lunch, 2 quarts of water. We will lunch at the summit of Clausland Mt.
Don't worry, this will be a moderate paced (2 mph) fun hike, a little snow won't bother us. Adverse conditions will modify the route. We will hike a total of about 6 miles. We meet in front of 450 Piermont Ave. (building with mural), corner of Tate and Piermont Ave. in Piermont NY at 11:17 AM. Park in municipal lot D which is located to the right off Gair Street which is located across the street from our meeting location.
Public transportation from the city is available on the 10:40 AM Rockland Coaches 9A bus from the George Washington Bridge Bus Terminal, platform 20, in Washington Heights to meet us in Piermont by 11:17. Tell the driver you are going to Piermont, NY. The bus should drop you off just across from 450 Piermont Ave. (building with mural) on the corner of Tate and Piermont Aves. where we will be waiting. It is across from the restaurant 14 & Hudson. You can also take the 9:15 Bus from Port Authority Bus Terminal, Gate 220, to arrive in Piermont at 10:17 but you will be an hour early. There are shops in town to pass the time.
Return buses run at a quarter to each hour for the hour long trip to Port Authority. During even-numbered hours, the bus also stops at the George Washington Bridge Bus Terminal. Last bus out is at 10:17 PM to Port Authority only.
If all goes as planned, we will be out around 3 - 3:30.

Go north on the Parkway to exit 4, "Route 9W". At the end of the ramp, turn left onto Route 9W North. Cross over the border into New York State, and then go exactly two more miles on 9W. Turn right at the sign for "TALLMAN STATE PARK". (This is Rockland Road). DO NOT ENTER TALLMAN STATE PARK! Stay straight on Rockland Road until it ends at a stop sign. At the stop, turn right onto Ferdon Ave. The road goes straight for a while and makes a sharp left. You'll soon go through a traffic light. At this point, the name of the road changes to Piermont Ave. Go around a curve and the next corner on the left is the meeting spot. Park down Gair Street in Lot D right across from where we meet.
