Get out, give back, get dirty…and support the Bay Circuit Trail! Why Volunteer at a Weekend Work Party? Ever wonder what goes into maintaining a trail? Looking for a way to give something back to the local trails you already use? Perhaps you are looking for a way to enjoy the outdoors, learn new skills, and meet like-minded people? Interested in exploring natural "gems" of the greater Boston area? Our one-day trail events offer the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of trail maintenance or building from skilled AMC Trail Crew Leaders right in Boston's backyard. 2018 Bay Circuit Trail work parties will take place between April and November at various eastern-Massachusetts locations along the trail. Consider coming out for an event close to your home, or use this as a reason to get to know new natural places. When? Where? Saturdays. Town where event takes place will be posted 2-3 months prior to the event. Exact address provided to participants upon registration. Volunteer tasks will vary event-to-event. •April 21 (Earth Day)-SHARON •May 12- BILLERICA •June 16 - MEDFIELD/SHERBORN •July 21 •Sept 29 (National Public Lands Day) •October 20 •November 10 What Should I Expect? A typical work party starts at 9am and runs no later than about 4pm, or earlier depending on how fast we finish the tasks at hand. Participants bring their own lunch, water, snacks, long pants (no matter how hot it is!), sturdy hiking boots, and other clothing appropriate for the weather (projects run rain or shine!). The AMC Trail Crew Leaders will provide all personal protective equipment, trail tools, instruction and supervision. No experience is required to participate, but we encourage beginners and experienced trail volunteers alike. Programs are suitable for individuals, small groups and families with children 12 years and older. Tell Me More about the Bay Circuit Trail! The Bay Circuit Trail (BCT) is a 230+mile front country recreational resource that arcs around greater Boston from Newburyport on the North Shore to Kingston Bay in the south. Due to its urban/suburban location, the BCT provides close-to-home recreation and connects a multitude of diverse public and private lands and trail networks. The trail traverses 37 towns and is within a short distance of more than 4 million people including Boston, New Hampshire, Central/Southern Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. To a large degree, the BCT is a multi-use trail allowing hiking, trail running, biking, horse-back riding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and paddling. Over two-thirds of the BCT route is off-road (on traditional trails, rail trails, unimproved woods roads, etc.), and the remaining third of the route is along roadways.
