We'll meet at SERC's Schmidt Conference Center. We'll tour my workplace, SERC's impressive Mathias Laboratory, where I'll talk about some of the work of SERC's 17 research groups, including forest and marsh ecology, fisheries, Chesapeake Bay's ecology, climate change, mercury pollution, etc. Then, we'll hike about 5 miles on SERC's trails, which include ruins of a historic plantation, a grove of Bald Cypress trees, boardwalks across marshes, and SERC's Education Center. Trails are mostly easy with a few hills and some wet spots. I'll cancel if heavy rain or snow is forecast, but will go ahead if there's a chance of light rain, showers, etc. After the hike, some of us my visit a nearby restaurant, Pirates' Cove for a drink or cup of crab soup. Note: Pets are not allowd at SERC.
