Learn the basics of sport climbing as a leader at one of the premier sport climbing destinations in the US. Rumney offers quality climbs at all grades, so you won't be disappointed! This class is for climbers with solid experience top rope climbing or gym climbing who want to take their skills outside. The class learning objectives include:
•Crag etiquette and minimizing impacts
•Review: belay standard, communications, safety checks, gear basics (helmets)
•Bolts and quick draws
•Proper rope clipping technique
•Leader fall risks
•Lowering vs rappelling from anchor (rappelling technique)
•Building bolted top rope anchors
•Cleaning anchors while clipped into bolt
Participants must provide their own gear, including climbing harness, helmet, and shoes and belay device and locking carabiner. Lodging at local rental house/inn or campground (participants make their own arrangements). Meals at local restaurants but paid for individually. Contact Leader for details, including gym session before the trip.
