Explore your inner Thoreau during this serene Midweek Writers Workshop. Come out and be inspired by the arrival of summer, and the beauty and tranquility of the natural world in the spirit of well-known American nature writers such as Henry David Thoreau, Rachel Carson, John Muir, Aldo Leopold, Loren Eiseley and you! No writing experience needed! Gail Larkin will lead us as we explore the serenity of trails and ponds during the day and read, write, and share our inspirations during the evening. We'll stay in newly renovated cabins. Mountain Laurel Cabins each have 2 bedrooms, each with 2 bunks and a common room and small refrigerator. Thick mattresses, blankets and pillows are provided. Bath houses are nearby and have hot showers and flush toilets. This event is led by the chapter's Harriman Program Committee Volunteer Leaders. Paddling and yoga equipment at the camp are provided free of charge courtesy of the NY-NoJ Chapter. Personal canoes & kayaks are allowed on Breakneck Pond; no permit is required. Registration Registration is mandatory. Photography programs fill quickly, so register early! Space is limited to 8 cabin guests. Register by June 11 midnight for Reduced Early Bird Prices. Registered guests will receive an Information Sheet at least one week prior to the event. Cost Early Bird Prices Cabin: $165 Members / $220 Non-members Day Guest (Thursday): $25 Members / $30 Non-members After June 11 midnight ** PRICE REDUCTION ** Cabin: $165 Members / $220 Non-member Day Guest (Thursday): $25 Members / $30 Non-members Cancellation Policy Reservations cancelled more than 14 days in advance receive a full refund minus a $25 processing fee. Reservations cancelled 14 days or less in advance are not refundable. If the AMC must cancel a program, registrants will be notified and all fees will be refunded. Normal weather will not cancel this event.

*Complete rate schedule is in the Event a Description. Cabin rate includes 2 nights accomm (Wed & Thur), 2 dinners (Wed & Thur), 2 brkfsts (Thur & Fri), and program leadership provided by volunteer leaders. Day Guest rate includes program leadership. Trail lunches, may be purchased separately. There is a 20% late order surcharge if you order meals at the camp. Rate excludes EventBrite and credit card processing fees for non-members. Driving Directions

The camp is easily accessible by public transportation. Take either the NJ Transit/Metro North train from New York Penn Station to Tuxdeo, or the Shortline bus from the 42nd Street Port Authority to Tuxedo. Click HERE to see the Van Shuttle pickup schedule. Call the camp office (617-523-0636 ext 6522) in advance to reserve a seat ($5 one way). The camp is about 45 minutes from NYC. Drive to Harriman State Park which is off the Palisades Parkway. The gate to the camp is on Lake Welch Parkway (41.217869, -74.106021). Drive up to the camp office to check-in and unload your gear.
