Overview

Enjoy a fabulous week of walking and exploration in Oberbozen, in the south Tyrol region of Italy. This UNESCO World Heritage region, where Italy meets Austria, is a perfect location for travelers to enjoy unrivaled landscape, classic European mountain villages, and the beautiful Tyrolean city of Bozen/Bolzano. It is a region where people are connected by twisting roads, footpaths, railway, and cable cars. It has a rich history of mountaineering, and a delectable blend of Austrian and Italian culinary delights. All breakfasts and dinners are included on this trip. Our hotel has an excellent dining room that serves luscious regional delights for breakfast and dinner. Lunch will be taken along the trail at any of the area's quaint country eateries. From our base in a lovely family-owned and operated hotel in Oberbozen, we will explore the area's meadows, pastures, and woodlands, all while enjoying sweeping views of the mountain ranges surrounding the area. You will often find yourself walking through freshly mowed fields. You may have an encounter with small herds of mellow cows and grazing sheep. The world-famous Dolomites are at our doorstep. Mid-week you will have the opportunity for self-exploration. A visit to the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology to see Otzi (the ice man) is a must. You may also rent a bike, visit an ancient castle, or walk along the steep hillsides with rows of vineyards. During our time together we will enjoy and understand this region with a purpose rooted in the 3-tiered mission of the AMC: education, conservation, and appreciation of the natural world. We will observe and participate in the area's culture, and witness its history, all of it a moving tapestry woven from its unique geography.
