Engadin region,
International,
Switzerland
Join us on travel to an exceptional region that the trip leader Steve has previously enjoyed immensely: Location: The Engadine region, located in south-eastern Switzerland, borders Italy. It is an ideal hiking area dotted with snow-capped mountain peaks, expansive glaciers, and verdant valleys. It includes Switzerland's only national park, its largest biodiversity reserve. It is also culturally very diverse with the presence of German, Italian, and Romansch (a language brought to Switzerland by Roman soldiers two millennia ago) influences. Hiking: During an average day we hike for 5 hours during which we walk 10 miles, climb/descend 2,000 feet. Accommodations: Three star hotels where Steve has stayed previously that feature comfortable rooms and excellent cuisine. In addition, we will spend two nights in Swiss mountain lodges, a uniquely alpine experience. These dwellings, located high up in the mountains, provide an exhilarating opportunity to commune with the natural world. Cultural highlights: We will learn about Switzerland's approach to biodiversity and sustainability at the Swiss National Park. We will visit museums in St. Moritz and Pontresina which are dedicated to the history of the alpine region and the local artists that lived there. Guiding you on this expedition are Steve and Debra. Steve lived in Switzerland for three years, speaks fluent German [the local language] and has planned/led over thirty Adventure Travel trips mainly in Europe's alpine regions. Debra brings her experience as an AMC leader since 2011. She is a past Chapter Chair and volunteer leader for the Florida Trail Association where she brings the curious on outdoor adventures in the wilds of the Everglades. She enjoys the challenges of long distance backpacking having thru-hiked the AT, PCT and Vermont Long Trails.
