Overview

Hike in one of the most impressive mountain ranges you may never have heard of. The Spanish Picos de Europa (Peaks of Europe) is a region of dramatic limestone peaks and lush valleys. We will hike among rugged cliffs, be immersed in magnificent scenery, and see rich flora, fauna and wildlife. These mountains are on the northern coast of Spain, barely 10 miles from the Bay of Biscay in the Atlantic Ocean. The highest peak in the range is 8,690'. We will day-hike from our base at two charming hotels in Arenas de Cabrales and Sotres. Most days we will have a choice of two hiking options. Prior to the hiking portion of this trip, we will explore the City of Bilbao, home to the iconic Frank Gehry Guggenheim Museum. After six days of glorious hiking in the Picos, we will go on a gentle canoe trip on the Sella River. When back in Bilbao, we will take a bus tour with stops in three areas in the Basque region. Please join us on this wonderful Spanish adventure.
