"Climb away from the shimmering play of light on Lac Léman, enjoy Gruyère cheese at Lac de la Gruyère, experience Alpine farming, tradition and tourist bustle in Saanenland, visit the chalk and cheese twosome, the Thunersee and Brienzersee. Followed by clear lake views conquering the passes; after the Brünigpass the Vierwaldstättersee with its many arms and the Innerschweiz metropolis of Luzern." Source: Switzerland Mobility The Lakes Route takes you on a trip right across picturesque Switzerland, with stunning views of the lake landscape in the Alpine region. We bicycle from Lac Léman (Lake Geneva) to Lake Lucerne, passing other lakes and offering incredible views over water in the Alps and Alpine foothills. The Savoy Alps, Burnese Alps, and Mt Pilatus impose themselves in the background as we wind our way through the countryside while stopping to enjoy the views, to sample the local food and beverages, and to immerse ourselves in any culture we discover. will be riding along rivers, past historic churches, among idyllic farms and rolling countryside, by castles and medieval fortress walls, and seeing meadows full of flowers. There will be traditional Swiss towns, some with chalets and fountains, others with amazing wooden houses. We may see a hot air balloon floating by, a paraglider, or stop at a local chocolatier. We will stop at Giessbach falls, see the oldest funicular in Europe, and visit the village of Brienz, known for its woodcarving. We will also take a day to visit one of the most incredible feats of human engineering, as we travel by train to Grindelwald in the Burnese Alps and then through the Eiger to the Jungfraujoch on the highest train in the world. At the end of our journey, we will linger for a day in picturesque Lucerne to enjoy one of the prettiest cities in the world. We will have the choice of either traditional bikes or electric bikes, to allow all participants the ability to engage some extra horsepower if desired. Our daily biking will alternate between flatter terrain and some climbing as we ascend over some of the passes along the way.
