Overview

Come Join the Echo Lake Camp Community! Echo Lake Camp nestles among the mountains and waters of Acadia National Park on Mt. Desert Island, between Somesville and Southwest Harbor. AMC's only Down East Maine camp has been a gathering spot for communities of families, friends, and newcomers alike for the last 100 years. ELC is an exceptional all-inclusive lakefront vacation spot that allows campers to experience the beauty of Acadia National Park and Mt. Desert Island by offering volunteer-led hikes and nature walks and other activities. A large deck outside the dining hall offers spectacular views of Echo Lake and the cliffs of Beech Mountain. There is no other camp, hotel, or housing option on Mt. Desert Island that provides lodging, meals, guided hikes and nature walks, and other activities affordably like Echo Lake Camp. Our facilities consist of: Canvas-sided platform tents equipped with cots, blankets, mattresses and pillows, Full-service dining hall providing three meals a day, Recreation hall and a library with comfortable chairs and a fireplace, Flush toilets and running hot and cold water in two areas, Hot showers and a bath which is handicapped accessible, Volleyball court, Basketball net, Horseshoe pit, Swimming floats, Boating dock with canoes, kayaks, rowboats, three sunfish and a windsurfer for communal use, And much more! Camp begins and ends on Saturdays throughout the summer. Camp life offers numerous opportunities to enjoy all that Acadia National Park has to offer. Daily hikes and walks led by experienced leaders are sponsored daily, except Wednesdays, to many beautiful and unusual areas. The camp also has two outdoor meals each week: the lobster cookout and the mussel picnic. For the non-seafood lover, alternative dinner items are available which include burgers and hotdogs of both meat and vegetarian options, and a variety of side dishes. In the evening, various programs are offered, for example, square dancing, singalongs, game nights and informative slideshows. Friday evening culminates with a camper Variety Show. All activities are completely voluntary and participation is entirely up to the whims and desires of each camper. Some campers pick a few activities to be involved in while others do it all! While there is no day care and supervision of children is the parents' responsibility, there is plenty to occupy children of all ages. Due to the proximity to the lake, Echo Lake Camp is not appropriate for children under the age of four. Pets are not permitted. Echo has adopted the AMC's policy of "Leave No Trace", and all of the activities are environmentally low-impact. We are also a smoke-free campus. Wifi is spotty. Southwest Harbor library offers excellent service. For further information, please click on the register button.
