Overview

Learn how to manage accident scenarios and provide first aid when you are in backcountry and emergency services are not close by. The Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course covers: - What is back country first aid - What is the golden 24 hours - Splinting and bandaging - Prioritizing needs - Patient assessment - Patient care - How to improvise, modify, and adapt The class is 16 hours in length and one must attend all 16 hours to be trained and certified in WFA. The class is fast paced in order to cover all the material and to get hands on practice through various scenarios. Previous first aid training is not necessary. Class size is limited in order to get the maximum time for hands on practice. Students are told to bring their full day packs and to learn how to use what they carry to deal with back country medical injuries/situations. Wear clothes you don't care if they stained, wet, torn. All students will be "patients" at some time during the practice sessions. You will learn how to improvise WFA tools and materials with what you carry in your packs. Please bring a bag lunch for each day. Lunch will be held in the classroom with a Q&A session. The class will be held at the New Weis Center for Education, Arts & Recreation Ringwood NJ.
