Overview

New York State's Adirondack Park is a natural wilderness like no other. Covering six million acres, it is the largest publicly protected area in the contiguous United States. There are over 2000 miles of hiking trails in the Lake Placid region providing access to spectacular views of the Adirondacks 46 High Peaks. These trails vary in length and degree of difficulty. This adventure is for beginner or vintage hikers seeking less strenuous journeys in the Adirondacks. We plan to do two half day and two full day hikes of 4 to 8 miles at a gentler pace. Our specific daily routes will be chosen based on weather conditions and group stamina. We have reserved the loft at the famous Adirondack Loj. It is a large co-ed room on the second floor with 12 single beds. The loft has a bright and roomy feel due to the added light from skylights and windows overlooking Heart Lake. Each bed has bedside shelving, coat hooks, and linens/towels are provided. There is a small changing room for privacy and a set of bathrooms with showers. Build in 1927, The Loj provides delicious home cooked meals, with homemade breads, soups and desserts, served in the rustic dining room. The comfortable lounge with its stone fireplace is perfect for recounting the day's adventures or relaxing with a book. Breakfasts, trail lunches and dinners are included. If you are looking for an introduction or a return to Adirondack wilderness hiking, this is the trip for you.
