For those with the desire to learn the basics of three-season backpacking. Instruction in general mountain safety, hiking with a full overnight pack, equipment, proper camp site selection and set up, cooking, trail finding, map and compass, off-trail navigation, weather, trip planning, nutrition, and emergency situations. Students will need a good three-season sleeping bag (+20 degree F), warm clothing, rain gear and foam pad. Tents may be provided if needed. This course will offer a detailed and fun filled introduction to traditional 3 season backpacking. Participate in indoor lectures and evening programs, sleeping outside Friday and Saturday night. Participants will prepare one meal outdoors. Workshop will begin promptly at 7:30pm on Friday, ending Sunday afternoon at 4:30pm. Cost is $290/members, $310 non-members. Fee includes materials, lodging, excellent meals and instruction.
