Overview

Join us for a 52 With-A-View hike of Mt. Eastman, an overnight car camping experience and a hike in the Deer Hill area of eastern Maine. Did you backpack years ago and no longer want to carry a heavy pack? Are you curious about camping out overnight but don't want to do it alone? Or do you simply want to indulge in your love for hiking and camping with peers? We will meet on Sunday morning June 2 to hike Mt Eastman via the Slippery Brook Trail at a moderate pace. This is a round-trip distance of about 8.5 miles, with about 2,580' elevation. We will offer the option of a ridge walk along Baldface Knob Trail (this would add a total of 1.4 miles). The ascent is mostly gradual, with a steeper section in the last .5 mile leading to the summit. At the summit, we'll enjoy lunch and views of the Moat and Sandwich Ranges, as well as of South Baldface, and eastward, Maine, weather permitting. After descending back to the trailhead, we will drive a few minutes north to set up camp at our designated campsite at Cold River Campground (or a nearby similar campground). Participants will bring their own small tent, sleeping bag, backpacking stove and food. If you do not have a tent or a stove, but want to camp, please contact one of the leaders to discuss how we may accommodate you. We will cook supper and gather round to share camp stories, and ideas for future excursions. On Monday morning, we will enjoy a coffee, tea and breakfast before packing up and checking out of the campsite. We will drive a few miles south to the Deer Hill Connector trailhead parking. From here, we will enjoy a leisurely hike of approximately 4 miles and 1,000' elevation (round trip) to the summit of Deer Hill. We expect to be back at our cars to head home by midday on Monday. Payment: $21 includes one night campground fee. ($25 non-AMC) Participants bring their own food. Cancellation and refund policy: If you must cancel before May 19, you will be refunded in full only if we can fill your spot. Cancellations made after midnight May 30 are not refundable. In the event that the trip is cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, you will be refunded less a $10 cancellation fee required by the campground. After filling out the online Registration, you will be contacted by the leaders to complete the registration process and payment. Gear List: will be provided by your trip leader

I have completed 46 of the 48 New Hampshire 4,000 footers at least once, and 67 of the New England 100 highest, spread across all seasons. I love hiking and look forward to sharing hiking experiences with you.
