Overview

Do you enjoy kayaking on lakes, rivers and marshes? When you drive along the seashore or walk along the beach, do you think about how much fun it would be to kayak on the ocean but don't know how or where to begin? The Introduction to Sea Kayaking weekend is designed to help you take that first step to transition from flat water kayaking to sea kayaking in a safe, friendly, and fun environment. You will be introduced to topics such as safety, currents, waves, chart reading and sea kayaking equipment. Led by experienced sea kayakers, you will enjoy the beauty and thrill of paddling along the Maine coast in the company of eagles, osprey, and seals. You will be staying at the AMC's beautiful waterfront Knubble Bay Camp (KBC) in Georgetown, ME. We will launch our kayaks from the beach on the property. Located at KBC is an "off the grid", open concept, post and beam cabin. The cabin has a large deck overlooking the water, a great place to relax, socialize or enjoy your favorite beverage. On the first floor is a large kitchen that includes a refrigerator, stove and oven. Also on that floor is a dining area and living space to relax or socialize. A large upstairs bunk room has terrific views of the water. Bring bedding and a pillow if you'd like to sleep in the cabin. If you prefer, sleep outside under the stars and wake to the call of the loons. Outside there are two tent platforms and ample level ground for tents. For more information on Knubble Bay Camp and the cabin, go to: https://amckbc.org/ (Copy & past this link into your browser address bar) This course is open to those with solid flatwater (lakes, rivers, or tidal areas) experience and skills.
