Overview

This moderate 5 day tour is a chance to ride little known Clair Saltsonstal Bike Route also called Mass Bike Route 1 (BR1) from start to finish (email me for a overview map). We will start by meeting and parking cars in the Blue Hills Reservation in Canton, riding north on BR1 to the Charles River at B.U. and the official start of the bike route, then U-turn and ride back on BR1 to Blue Hills to camp our first night at AMC Ponkapoag Camp (30 mi). On Day 2 we continue on BR1 to Miles Standish State Park in Plymouth (49 mi). On day 3 we ride 12 miles of rolling hills to Plymouth Harbor to board the Provincetown Ferry. From P Town, steeper rolling hills continue still following the Clair Saltsonstall Bike Route 1 which includes the flat Cape Cod Rail Trail to Nickerson SP (44 mi). On the 4th day, after riding to the end of the CCRT, but still BR1, there's a series of long and sometimes steep hills as we parallel Rt 6 on "Service Rd" until reaching the Sagamore Bridge followed by Low rolling hills back to Miles Standish (58 mi). The 5th day is a return to the cars (49 mi). If group campsites are available, we can have 12 riders, otherwise limited to 8 maximum. Denny <[email protected]> Pros- Close by, pleasant roads, ferry ride from Plymouth to P Town, Cape Cod Rail Trail. Cons- Much of the route is rolling hills, but not all. There are some climbs!!! State Parks require advanced reservations, advanced reservations require an early ($$$) commitment. You will need to make reservations, and pay for, your ticket for the Plymouth to Provincetown Ferry

In 2006 I discovered the joy of cycling and since then I have cycled the 12,000 mile outer perimeter of the Continental US on a bicycle. While extended rides are enjoyable, a bicycle ride need not be an epic journey. A few hours to a few days cycling in the company of like minded travelers to a local destinations is always a rewarding pleasure. Come join us.
