West Fest is an annual celebration of whitewater paddling coinciding with a release on the West River in Jamaica, VT. Jamaica State Park is the epicenter for this event, and campsite there are long sold out. For those more interested in paddling (and a good night's sleep) than partying the night away, the Jamaica Elementary School (5 min walk from the State Park) is opening its field to registered AMC Campers for a non-party gathering and Saturday night potluck. We will be able to use the school's restrooms (no showers) and kitchen for the potluck. The school is traditionally the put-in for the Class 2 run to Route 100, and one of the takeouts for the Class 3 run from Ball Mountain Dam. We will be posting volunteer-led trips on both the Class 3 and Class 2 sections of the West. Camping is Friday and Saturday night. Fee is $10per person/per night, payable in cash at the campsite. All proceeds will be donated directly to the school. Because camping is on school grounds, alcohol, tobacco and all drugs (including legal marijuana) are strictly prohibited. Anyone breaking this rule will be asked to leave immediately. We hope to be able to offer this option yearly, but will only be able to do so if everyone cooperates.
