AMC Boston Paddlers invites you to join us to explore Westport River for an early season shake-down paddle. We'll ride the tide in as we paddle up-river 3-5 miles (depending on group pace), rest and stop for lunch, and then paddle with tidal assist back to our starting point. This trip is for Level 1 and 2 paddlers. However, drysuits or 3mm full-sleeve wetsuits + windproof top and bottom layers are required for safety as water temperatures are still low. You should have previous recent wet-exit and assisted rescue experience, be comfortable in small waves and chop, and capable of paddling a 6-10 mile day. You must have a sit-in kayak that is at least 14' in length, has bulkheads or flotation bags, and perimeter deck lines. A Coast Guard approved Type III PFD is required to be worn at all times while we are on the water. Each trip applicant MUST (1) Complete the electronic waiver & registration form here on Be Outdoors; and (2) Complete this Google Docs survey (https://forms.gle/5QT4znUZXdRLtpMu6) in order to apply for this trip. If there are 2 or more people in your group, each person must complete a separate response. Thank you for doing both (1) and (2). This simplifies paperwork on trip day. The leader will review your responses and you will be notified by e-mail of your approval or non-approval for the trip. The leader will send an e-mail to all participants with detailed trip information including meeting time and location a minimum of 36 hours prior to the trip date/time. Please note that this is an all-day trip. Please note that a public pay for parking fee will likely be required at the launch site; participants should plan for this to be either cash or charge.
