New Hampshire, Upper Connecticut River Valley/Lake Sunapee,
NH
Join us on a long approach to Mt. Sunapee via the northernmost section of the Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway (MSG). This hike will be approximately 15.5 miles and approximately 3700 ft of elevation gain as we traverse Lovewell Mountain, Kittredge Hill, and the long ridge up to Mt. Sunapee. With good weather, we'll be afforded expansive views in multiple directions from Lovewell Mountain and several outcroppings along Sunapee Ridge and from Mt. Sunapee itself. Being the most remote section of the MSG, we may even see some wildlife! This hike is suitable for people who have been actively hiking throughout this winter and early spring and who have recent experience hiking approximately 10 miles with elevation gain (approx. 2500+ feet). This is a long hike, so expect to be on the trail for approximately 8-10 hours. This is a point-to-point hike which will require us to shuttle cars and people between our starting and ending trailheads. Due to car shuttling and the distance of the hike, expect an early start and a long day. Heavy sustained rain or thunderstorms will likely cause us to modify the route. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.
