Mt. Wachusett,

Please join us for a 2.9-mile hike in the woods paced for families and for pausing along the way to appreciate the green around us. Naturalist MJ Henry and forester Tim Hawley will interpret some of the many forms of life we will encounter. Our route crosses four different forest communities, an open area to look for hawks, and a pond's shore with evidence of beavers. We will talk about old growth forest, the roles of forests in the carbon cycle, how forests change over time, and some of the birds who make their homes in forests. We will not summit but will climb about 700 feet in elevation. Suitable for ages 10 and up. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Bring water, snacks, and insect repellent. Registration required. After this trip, please join us for TrailsFest 2024, taking place June 1, 2024 at the Wachusett Mountain Ski Area! TrailsFest, which has been held annually since 2018, coincides with National Trails Day and is co-hosted by a group of organizations including the Appalachian Mountain Club, Greater Worcester Land Trust, Wachusett Mountain Ski Area, North County Land Trust, MA Department of Conservation & Recreation, and Mid State Trail Committee.
