Overview

Support the A.T.--keep it in good shape for the future. Today we'll be maintaining waterbars (drainage channels) on a short section of the the A.T. that climbs moderately above the trailhead at Rt 23. Waterbars provide essential drainage that keeps this section of trail from washing out and turning into a trench. They need regular cleaning. All work is within a half mile of the trailhead and consists of digging out clogged drainage channels to provide clear path for water. Slow hiking, moderate digging with heavy hand tools. High degree of satisfaction. Dress for the expected weather, wear sturdy shoes, and long pants. Work gloves highly recommended. Bring lunch/snack and plenty of water to drink. Half-day work option is possible, contact leader.
