Overview

This hike is part of the Spring Hiking Series. First preference for these hikes will be given to those who attended the Spring Workshops on May 11, 2024. If space is available 4 days before each hike, registrations for others will be considered and you will receive a confirming email. An Information Sheet will be sent to all confirmed hikers. Join AMC Boston Local Walks and Hikes for a hike through Hapgood Wright Forest and Walden Pond. In 2008, Hapgood Wright Town Forest was chosen to be the first Concord conservation land to use the new trail blaze system. Walden Pond was once home to the famed author Henry David Thoreau. We will cover just over 5 miles with about 200 feet of elevation gain. Make sure to wear hiking shoes/boots as there may be rocks and roots on the trail. Be prepared for possibly wet/muddy trails and bring extra socks (in case your shoes get soaked. Bring your favorite pair of hiking poles, if those are something you enjoy hiking with! Wear moisture wicking layers and make sure your favorite daypack/backpack has a rain jacket/poncho and rain pants, just in case of wet weather. Make sure to pack insect spray, sunscreen, hat and/or sunglasses. Make sure to bring lunch and/or snacks and at least 1 liter of water. Meeting location will be emailed to participants about 2 days prior to the hike. Steady rain/ thunderstorms will cancel the hike.
