Experience two of Rhode Island's best traffic free bike paths and witness Providence's WaterFire from a Venetian gondola! The Blackstone River Bikeway follows the Blackstone River wherever possible, including on the tow paths of the historic Blackstone Canal. This highly scenic 23.2 mile (RT) bikeway crosses the river many times, offering views of waterfalls, marshes and wildlife. Many old mills line the river too, evidence of the impact of the Industrial Revolution that earned the Blackstone the title of the "hardest-working river in America." The famous East Bay Bike Path is the first multi-town bike path built in Rhode Island. It travels 29 miles (RT) between Providence and Bristol, passing many recreation areas including beautiful Colt State Park. Capture glistening views of the Providence River as it empties into Narragansett Bay. WaterFire is an award-winning sculpture installed on the three rivers of downtown Providence, and has been praised as a moving symbol of Providence's renaissance. WaterFire's over eighty sparkling bonfires, the fragrant scent of aromatic wood smoke, the flickering firelight on the arched bridges, the silhouettes of the fire-tenders passing by the flames, the torch-lit vessels traveling down the river, and the enchanting music engage all the senses and emotions of those who stroll the riverfront paths. In addition to observing from shore, we will glide past the flaming braziers of WaterFire on a private gondola cruise.
