Overview

This hike is part of the Spring Hiking Series. First preference for these hikes will be given to those who attended the Spring Workshops on May 11, 2024. If space is available 4 days before each hike, registrations for others will be considered and you will receive a confirming email. An Information Sheet will be sent to all confirmed hikers. An easy paced, low elevation hike which will cover about 5 miles. The hike starts with a loop through Jericho Town Forest where the terrain is a mixture of forest paths, fields, streams, and a few wooden footbridges. After a short lunch break, we will continue the hike through Cherry Brook Conservation Land and along a portion of the perimeter of College Pond, an area which is listed as a birding hotspot. Plan to be out for about 3 hours, depending on the pace of the group (which can vary). We start together and stay together and the slowest person sets the pace. Wear sturdy hiking shoes. Be prepared for a possibly wet, muddy trail including deep puddles. Wear moisture wicking layers and clothing appropriate for the weather. Bring the following in your Day Pack: lunch/snacks, at least 1 liter of water Bring hiking poles, a hat, insect repellent and sunscreen (if you use these items). Hike information and details will be emailed to participants about 2 days prior to the hike. Steady rain/ thunderstorms cancels. No dogs allowed on the hike, thanks for understanding A permit from the Weston Conservation Commission was obtained for this hike. In accordance with the permit, all hikers must practice principals of "Leave No Trace" •Pack it In, Pack it Out. pack out all trash and leftover food •Leave what you Find: no natural materials should be removed from conservation land The hike leader reserves the right to adjust the route if conditions warrant and cannot guarantee the hike will be completed by any specific time.
