Join other French Creek State Park trail volunteers for a few hours of trail work in French Creek State Park. We work on various projects before the vegetation starts growing a lot. We spend more time keeping the trails open after the growing season begins in earnest. Any hiking is rated EASY (but you will be carrying your tools) however, work tasks will range from MODERATE to STRENUOUS. Options are often available to extend work more hours during the day longer if you wish. A Tuesday 6PM work session is also available thru the park even if not on Meetup. Both Trail Work seasons are typically every Tuesday throughout the year. Contact Jay for details. Some work days may be canceled due to weather if it is going to be exceptionally windy or cold. Expected precipitation during work session time also cancels. I will post Meetup comments and cancel the day's particular event listing on the AMC website. I cancel work sessions more readily than hikes in the same conditions due to safety concerns. Meet at 10:30AM at the trail crew shed across Park Road from the ranger station. (It is okay to drive past the no trespassing signs and gate to enter the park maintenance area because that is what you are going to do.) The trail crew building is the second from the left. Park on the driveway that goes around it or the nearby dirt. Bring any PPE such as gloves, goggles, or hard hats you might own, but we can supply you with missing items. Work or hiking boots required. Bring something for snacks and to drink in a pack. The park can provide all the tools. You are working alongside park staff and experienced trail crew leaders who can provide instruction. Advance registration is not required on the AMC website; Just select "Attend" on Meetup. (Look for event listings from this page if you are not in Meetup: https://www.meetup.com/Appalachian-Mountain-Club-Delaware-Valley-Chapter/ ). All participants need to agree to and sign the AMC legal waver sheet just prior to the work session. The park requests you sign their DNCR waiver and registration form if you have not registered (once) on-line as a volunteer. Sign the DCNR form when we meet. Another way to help in the park is to let me know when you encounter problem areas when you are on the trails. The best way to do this is to put a dot on a physical map and take a picture of it, put a waypoint or drop a pin on your device's hiking app so we know the exact location. If you have an idea of the size or a picture that is helpful too.
