Overview

Join us for some trail improvement work on the Midstate Trail at Mt. Wachusett. Bring: Gloves, water, snacks, bandana, sturdy shoes, and sun protection, Recommend bringing a change of shoes and clothes to leave in your car. Difficulty: Moderate Audience: All experience levels will be put to work in some way. We will be using hands, hoes, shovels, pick-mattocks and rock bars to improve drainage around wet areas of the trail. We will be digging trenches to direct water away from the trail and moving rocks, some large, to create stepping stones over wet areas. You can expect to get dirty, wet and muddy. Park at the Wachusett Mountain Ski Area close to the lodge then proceed towards the pond at the south end of the parking area until you see the tell tale yellow triangles marking the Midstate Trail. Follow the trail and cross Mountain Road (carefully) and proceed a few yards down the trail until you see the work crew. TrailsFest, which has been held annually since 2018, coincides with National Trails Day and is co-hosted by a group of organizations including the Appalachian Mountain Club, Greater Worcester Land Trust, Wachusett Mountain Ski Area, North County Land Trust, MA Department of Conservation & Recreation, and Mid State Trail Committee. At this event, we celebrate trails in all their forms: hiking trails, bike paths, waterways, climbing routes, etc. 8 AM - 12 PM: Over 30 activities that take place in and around Wachusett Mountain, including yoga, cycling, hiking, trail maintenance, naturalist walks, birding, climbing, mountain biking, landscape painting, interpretative journeys, etc. All activities are planned to start and end at the Wachusett Mountain Ski Area. 12 PM - 4 PM: A celebration of trails which includes a partners tent (with over 40 local outdoor groups tabling), musical acts, workshops, family activities, and several food trucks!
