Join us for an easy 2.5 mile "Forest Bathing and Guided Meditation" hike at AMC's TrailsFest, where Dawn Geoffroy, a local Yoga Instructor and outdoor enthusiast, will guide us as we practice slowing down and becoming immersed in the natural environment. Dawn enjoys teaching people how to improve their range of motion, stability, and endurance, and wants to show others how regularly practicing Yoga can cultivate healthy, mobile joints, and help avoid injury. Originating in Japan, Forest Bathing involves slow, mindful sensory connection with the natural environment. Forest Bathing was created to offer and eco-antidote to burnout and inspire people to reconnect with the forest. We'll take an opportunity to take in our surroundings by using all our senses, and to learn to get in tune with the smells, textures, tastes, and sights of the forest. This hike takes us through some of Wachusett's less travelled, lower elevation trails and paths, and to two quiet ponds. We will hike at a slow to moderate pace (+/- 1.5 MPH), with short breaks along the way. Participants must bring water, a jacket (in case of cold or rain), and appropriate footwear (hiking boots are suggested, although secure sneakers are also acceptable). Additionally, it is recommended that participants bring a yoga mat and/or large towel for a comfortable and supported experience, as well as trail snacks. Note that some parts of the trail may be muddy if it rains within a few days of the hike. This hike is expected to take about 3 hours, depending on the group's size and pace. Heavy rain cancels, but light rain does not (unless the wind and temperature are not conducive to a safe and enjoyable experience). To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, the planned route may be modified by the leaders either before or during the hike. Please contact the leader if you have any questions. After the hike, please join us for TrailsFest 2024 as we celebrate trails in all their forms: hiking trails, bike paths, waterways, climbing routes, etc. TrailsFest takes place in the parking lot where we start and end, and is co-hosted by organizations including the Appalachian Mountain Club, Greater Worcester Land Trust, Wachusett Mountain Ski Area, North County Land Trust, and others. - 8AM - 12PM: Over 30 activities take place in and around Wachusett Mountain, including yoga, cycling, hiking, trail maintenance, naturalist walks, mountain biking, landscape painting, interpretative journeys, etc. - 12PM - 4PM: A celebration of trails, which includes a partner's tent (with over 40 local outdoor groups tabling), musical acts, workshops, family activities, and several food trucks! Bring yourself, your friends and family, and spread the word! More information can be found here: https://www.midstatetrail.org/trailsfest/
