Backpack on the Appalachian Trail through scenic Beartown State Forest in the southern Berkshires. The trip is two nights, with a short first day (about a mile) to our first night campsite, then daily mileage of 5-8 miles, for a total of 14 miles for the trip. The terrain is generally moderate, but we'll encounter a few challenging ascents and descents. Our pace will be slow-moderate (about 1.8 mph moving and 1.2 overall). Participants will need to have appropriate backpacking gear to be self-reliant on this multi-day trip, including food and water. A sense of humor, adventure, and fun is also required! Sign-up preference given to those who have completed this year's Worcester Chapter backpacking workshop. Others may register, but will be wait-listed until three weeks before the trip.
