Chavis and Dennis will share their current work and how they have confronted social inequality, discrimination, and racism on Long Island. Their stories serve as an inspiration to many and a testament to the resilience and strength of the Shinnecock people. Rainbow Chavis is currently spearheading cultural programming and is instrumental in creating diverse projects aimed at maintaining and preserving cultural practices, fostering land-based healing with plant medicine, and developing an Algonquin language curriculum. Jeremy Dennis, an indigenous artist deeply connected to his Shinnecock lineage, has created a safe space for BIPOC artists. His initiative allows artists to create, participate in residencies, and exhibit their contemporary work on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation. About Shinnecock Nation- The Shinnecock Nation is a federally recognized tribe of historically Algonquian-speaking Native Americans whose land base is in the town of Southampton in Suffolk County, New York.
