Overview

Do your part and help make the new trail at Lake Nockamixon State Park a reality. The Pennsylvania Highlands Trail Stewards have been working for over two years, building this trail as the "missing link"---the only part of Lake Nockamixon State Park that did not have a hiking trail. It is part of the Pennsylvania Highlands Trail Network. The trail is finished, the corridor is cut, but without hikers walking on it, it continues to re-vegetate, so we need hikers to "trample the treadway" so that the treadway will still be apparent and the re-growth will be easier to manage. This will be a 7-8 mile hike on relatively flat terrain, so it is rated MODERATE. There may be ticks or poison ivy present and the trail may be muddy. We will hike north on the trail, have lunch by the lake, and return by the same route to maximize time trampling the treadway. Please bring lunch and water. Hike will go on in light rain, but heavy rain/thunderstorms will cancel. If in doubt, check AMCDV activities calendar for cancellation which will be posted by 8 a.m. https://amcdv.org/activities/activities-calendar/ Contact leader with any questions. [email protected] Meet by 10 a.m. at Parking Lot #12 for the Environmental Education Center. Turn off PA 563 on Harrisburg School Rd. At the first stop sign, make a RIGHT through the gate. The parking lot will be just ahead on your left.
