Welch Mountain,
New Hampshire, White Mountains,
NH
Join us for a hike of the short but challenging Welch Dickey loop. In this 4.5 mile, 1800" elevation gain hike, we will summit mounts Welch and Dickey with great views o the Waterville Valley. Welch Dickey is a great trail to get a taste of granite slabs, scrambles and exposure in a smaller package than the 4000 footers and is less than 2 hours from Boston. We will travel on the slow side of moderate so that hikers can have a safe and comfortable time moving on rock and using their hands to climb scrambles. Participants should be prepared to hike for a full day and spend extended time in the sun, wind, and light rain (heavy rain will cancel or change the trip due to hazardous wet rock). We will also have one moderate water crossing at the beginning of the trail. This is a great way to gain experience before moving on to higher peaks with more above treeline sections. A complete gear list and detailed instructions will be sent to approved participants. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.
