Ride some of the best mountain-bike terrain in New England. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the White Mountains as you hone your skills on dirt roads and single- and double- track trails, capping each day off with a swim in one of the many pristine mountain pools we'll visit. Soon you'll be able to venture onto longer rides, learn to shift like a pro, cross streams, hop logs, make field repairs, and climb and descend varied terrain with confidence. This trip is designed for all riding levels. We recommend bringing your own bike if you have one, but pre-serviced bikes are available and included in the price of the program. For ages: 14-16 General Itinerary: The participants will meet each other and the AMC instructors on the first morning at the Pinkham Notch Visitor Center. We will spend the morning getting to know each other, covering logistics and expectations, and thoroughly checking our personal gear and all group equipment. After lunch we will make any final equipment adjustments and head out for six days of mountain biking, exploration, and swimming in the White Mountains! Mountain Biking ~ We will start our trip by heading over to Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center where we will learn basic techniques for carriage road and single-track riding on their trail system. At night we'll camp at Great Glen, cook some fabulous food, have an evening session on bike maintenance, and possibly enjoy a sunset ride. We'll spend the rest of the trip exploring the wide variety of trails in this area, improving our skills, and enjoying longer rides. Throughout the trip, we will seek out nearby swimming holes to cool off after challenging rides. This trip is designed for beginner to intermediate bikers to ensure that everyone is comfortable riding together. Camping ~ Great Glen's camping area is located at the edge of a large meadow on the trail system at Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center. Our group will be sleeping in backpacking tents and will have access to an indoor cooking area.
