Biscuit Brook Parking Area (GPS Coordinate: 41.991328 -74.484844),
New York, Catskills,
On this day, we will climb Fir and Big Indian Mountains, both of which are trail-less bushwhacking peaks with registration requirement to become a Catsill 35'er. The group will meet at Biscuit Brook Parking Area (GPS Coordinate: 41.991328 -74.484844) at 10:00 and start hiking shortly thereafter. The planned route is little over 10 miles with 2,166 feet elevation gain. So, we are planning to wrap up the hike in about 5 hours, which returns 2 mph pace in average with the breaks in between. For more details about the planned route and descriptions, refer to: https://www.hikingproject.com/trail/7014854/fir-and-big-indian-mountain Bring enough water and snacks because we do not intend to have a sit-down picnic-style lunch out in the cold. Dress appropriately for the weather and trail conditions. Microspikes are minimum requirements; snowshoes might be necessary depending on how much accumulation the region might see between now and then. Look up the trail conditions and come prepared accordingly. It is also advisable to bring spare clothes, hat, gloves and socks to change into after the hike. The leader will rent a 4x4 or AWD SUV and offer a ride to four other people (first come; first served) from a central location in NYC. When you register, let the leader know if you are driving or need a ride. If former, let me know if you are willing to offer a ride to other participants; how many you can fit in your car and where would be a convenient location for you to pick-up and drop-off the passengers. On our way back to NYC, we will make a few obligatory stops to refuel ourselves with goodies as with always the case with Heeday's hikes.
