What is a table volunteer? As a way of spreading awareness about the AMC, attracting new participants to our activities, and cultivating new members, the NY-NoJ Chapter sets up info tables and various fairs, expos, and festivals all around the greater NYC area. These tables provide visitors an opportunity to pick up some printed information about the AMC, sign up to receive more info or join, purchase or win AMC goods, or just talk to a knowledgeable AMC volunteer about getting outdoors. Volunteers at such events are expected to have a well-rounded general knowledge about the AMC, be friendly and personable, have great communication skills, set up and breakdown a display, are capable of using an AMC provided iPad to process book and membership sales, and organize raffle drawings. How do you become a volunteer? You simply need to sign up and complete the workshop. You'll learn everything you need to volunteer at a table. You'll get knowledge on AMC's history, the breath of our programming throughout the northeast including our conservation and youth education work, and also details about AMC's mission and vision for the next 150 years. We'll work on setting up displays to be interesting and attractive, and how you can pitch the AMC in a few words. You'll also learn how to use the iPad for signing people up for AMC membership and selling books. We'll provide all of the materials, and a lunch! What's in it for you? Well, quite a few perks. Volunteers will have all of their expenses covered, and necessary materials provided, some events include free event passes for you and your guests, vendor only goodie bags, special after parties and events, and for the first time this year info table volunteers will be included in the chapter's Volunteer Recognition Awards at the annual dinner. Which means that table volunteers who contribute 20+ hours in a calendar year will be eligible to receive one of Patagonia's highest quality fleece jackets with custom AMC embroidery recognizing your contributions! And we can't leave out the knowledge and satisfaction that your efforts will help to sustain and grow the AMC for future generations. If you're interested please contact Justin Bailey (firstname.lastname@example.org) to sign up for the workshop!
