Overview

Paddle the rivers and climb the mountains with active adults in the beautiful White Mountains! We've merged two or your favorite offerings- paddling and hiking to our backcountry huts. We'll paddle on the beautiful Androscoggin River where wildlife and scenic vistas abound. The next day we'll hike into the boreal forest to Carter Notch Hut and spend our third and final night. We'll look for constellations and listen for owls and frogs. After a good night's sleep and a hearty breakfast we'll hike down and recount our adventures with our new friends! ITINERARY: First Night: Meet your AMC Guides and the other guests over dinner at the AMC Joe Doge Lodge, dinner will follow with an overview meeting to get everyone excited about the next few days! First Day: After a hearty breakfast we'll spend the day on the river. We'll paddle flat water surrounded by beautiful scenery while looking for local wildlife- eagles, ospreys, and moose. Dinner and an after dinner program Second Day: After a hearty breakfast we head into the mountains. We'll hike up 19 Mile Brook trail through the northern hardwood forest and into the boreal forest, Guides will share natural history along the way. We'll have lunch on the trail or at the Carter Ponds. At cozy Carter Notch Hut, hour home for the night, we'll have time to explore the ramparts before dinner and an evening program. Last Day: After a heaty breakfast we'll pack up and hike out. We'll hike out, mostly a downhill trek on the Wildcat River Trail to the Bog Brook Trail 4.3miles to an AMC Van. We'll drive back to AMC Joe Dodge Lodge with lunch on the trail. Estimated return to Joe Dodge Lodge is 2 pm.

Take I-93 North to NH Rt. 104 East (NH Exit 23). 2. Take Rt. 104 East for 8.3 miles. 3. Turn left on Rt. 3 North for 0.9 miles. 4. Turn right onto Rt. 25 East for 22.6 miles to Rt. 16 North. 5. Turn left onto Rt. 16 North to Pinkham Notch Visitor Center/Joe Dodge Lodge, located on the left side of Rt. 16 approximately 12 miles north of the Glen intersection. Or 1. Take I-95 North to NH Rt. 16 North (NH exit 4) 2. Follow 16 North approximately 90 miles to Pinkham Notch Visitor Center/Joe Dodge Lodge. From Portland, ME: 1. Take Rt. 302 West to Rt. 16 North (at North Conway, N.H.). 2. Take Rt. 16 North 20 miles to Pinkham Notch Visitor Center/Joe Dodge Lodge, on left. From Montreal: 1. Take AutoRt. 10 East to AutoRt. 55 South (north of Magog). 2. Take AutoRt. 55 South to I-91 South (at US/Canada line). 3. Take I-91 South to I-93 South (VT Exit 19). 4. Take I-93 South for 22.2 miles to Rt. 302 East (NH Exit 40). 5. Take Rt. 302 East for 40.1 miles. Turn left onto Rt. 16 North (in Glen, NH). 6. Take Rt. 16 North 20 miles to Pinkham Notch Visitor Center/Joe Dodge Lodge, located on the left. From New York City (and Hartford, CT, or western MA) 1. Take I-95 North to I-91 North (Exit 48). 2.
