Overview

"The long distance hiker, a breed set apart, From the likes of the usual pack. He'll shoulder his gear, be hittin' the trail; Long gone, long 'fore he'll be back." ? M.J. Eberhart The trail everyone loves to hate is due for some summer cleaning! Join us for a day of group trail maintenance on the Fishin' Jimmy and a side trip to two of the forty-eight 4,000 footers, North and South Kinsman. If you're working on a list that requires trail work (48x4, Trailwrights 72), this is an opportunity to progress towards that goal. Your leaders are AMC Trail Adopters, with WFR and AWFA certifications. Under their guidance, you'll learn how to clear out water bars, prune shrubbery and take detailed trail maintenance notes. This is a great opportunity to give back to the mountains we all know and love. Is this hike for you? The Fishin' Jimmy trail has quite the reputation, so we're looking for strong hikers with the endurance to handle a slew of PUDs (that's pointless ups and downs). You should be comfortable with a heavy pack (we'll have shared group gear including tools, plus you'll need to carry 2 liters of water and food). Basic three-season hiking gear is required plus: long sleeved shirt, long pants (no shorts!), boots that cover the ankles, work gloves to protect your hands, safety glasses or other eye protection. Tools will be provided. Gear is likely to get muddy and/or ripped; durability is more important than light weight.

Leader

Jon finished a round of the New England Hundred Highest just before heading off to the Southwest for four years. He's thrilled to be back in New England and working seriously on the winter 4000-footers. Other fun had in the meantime includes the Pikes Peak Marathon and a rim-to-rim-to-rim run of the Grand Canyon. Goal-oriented but interested in keeping things safe and fun.

Co-Leader

Brittney is a peak-bagging hiker, having completed the NH 48 4,000 footers in four months and two days. Her favorite hikes include a Semi-Pemi loop and a Solo Presi Traverse. She is WFA/AWFA/CPR/AED certified.
