Overview

Learn what to do when you fall out of your boat and how to help others when they've fallen out of theirs. We'll cover throwbag use, boat bumping, and other low-tech rescue skills needed by all whitewater paddlers. This class involves lots of swimming, so bring a wetsuit if you have one. Held on the Esopus in the Catskills. Satisfies the S&R requirement for an AMC Class 2 or higher whitewater rating. Fee of $35 includes instruction, use of equipment and Sat night camping. Make a weekend of it: paddle the Esopus on Sat, spend the night at the campground, then attend the Sun S&R workshop. Registration required. You have questions? Email the leader for answers.
