Overview

Children welcome when accompanied by a parent. Enjoy the fun and excitement of sailing on a 23' Sonar sloop; Join an AMC skipper & learn or practice basic sailing skills on beautiful Long Island Sound and the area near New Rochelle and Manhasset Bay; Take a turn at the helm, trim sails or just relax & enjoy being on the water, feeling the power of the wind, the fresh sea air & sun, being in the area of the Great Gatsby locations - East Egg (Cow Neck on Sands Point) & West Egg (Great Neck) ; Assist in raising sails, try out the points of sail, going upwind, downwind, tacking, jibing (gybing), experience heading up (towards the wind), falling off (away from the wind), using some knots & learning or reviewing the rules of the road & safety on the water; Learn about our apprentice sail training program; Experienced sailors could be a candidate to be one of our instructors / captains; Register ASAP, preferred via E-mail

AMC Sailing Chair; AMC member about 30 years; sailing about 45 years; Started teaching sailing / being a skipper at AMC Fire Island house about 22 years ago, started as instructor /skipper with AMC Sailing Committee about 20 years ago; Leader of "Learn to Sail" weekends at AMC Fire Island house for many years; Volunteer crew on 106' 65 ton Schooner Pioneer & on 110' 107 ton schooner Mystic Whaler; Love teaching & sharing knowledge of on the water safety, sailing skills & the fun of sailing
