Dolly Sods West Virginia,
Join us for a beautiful fall foilage backpack journey in Dolly Sods, West Virginia. The alpine environment that makes up the Dolly Sods Wilderness area is arguably one of the most gorgeous places to enjoy the change of seasons in the Mid Atlantic. I recommend driving down Friday evening and camping at Bear Rocks camp ground or do as I do and sleep in your car. This 21-mile backpack will begin Saturday, October 8th at the parking area on FR 75 at the beginning of the Bear Rocks Trail at 10am. (39°03'49.0"N 79°18'11.4"W) We will travel a variety of trails and camp in the vicinity of the Lions Head overlook. On Sunday, we will get an early start (8am or before) for a 10 mile day that includes waterfalls, meadows, and some stream crossings. Registration is required. Group size is limited. Please send me an email with your 3-season gear list and your recent hiking experience if I have not backpacked with you before. Bring a blaze orange hat/vest/piece of outerwear, as this is hunting season. Additional details will be provided to registrants.
