New York, Catskills,
Grand finale of Catskill 3500 take us to North Dome and Sherrill over the stretch and scratch of 6~6.5 mile trail-less bushwhack in Central/Northern Catskills. As mentioned on my August 6th hike, this hike is perfect for those who are working on Catskill 3500 and/or who would like to start a new challenge out in Catskills. It is also suitable for those who would like to practice their navigation skills as well. Being the bushwhack hikes, there aren't maintained trails, and the hikers are constantly challenged to pick the best routes by making a frequent reference to the topographic maps. The group will meet at the DEC parking lot (GPS Coordinate: 42.191908, -74.324328) along Spruceton Road at 8:45 and start hiking promptly at 9:00. We should be back at our car after climbing two peaks at about 14:30~15:00 and make a few obligatory refueling stops before returning to NYC around 20:30. The trip leader will be renting a 5-passenger vehicle and offering a ride to 4 other passengers from and back to a central location in Manhattan. All the associated costs, such as car rental, fees/taxes, collision insurance, gas and tolls, will be shared amongst the passengers. The seats are first come; first served. Due to the DEC regulation, the group size must be kept within 20 people to minimize the environmental impacts. That said, the participants are required to register in advance to join the hike. At the time of registration, please indicate if you need a ride. If you are driving, please let the leader know 1) where you are driving from, 2) if you are willing to share a ride with other non-drivers from/to or the transit-accessible vicinity of NYC and 3) how many people you can fit in your vehicle. Please bring food, snacks and water and dress appropriately to the weather and trail conditions.
